Palladium is a precious metal in the platinum group. Like platinum, it is used in jewelry, and as a catalyst in chemical reactions. Palladium coins have been issued by a handful of countries, as commemoratives or presentation issues rather than for circulation. In 1966 Sierra Leone produced 100 palladium coins as part of a production run of gold coins. The first official palladium issue was a 3-coin set in 1967 by the Kingdom of Tonga.
